Residential fires claim thousands of lives each year. Working smoke detectors in your home can cut the risk of house fire deaths in half.

That’s why Walton County Fire Rescue is partnering with American Red Cross to implement a program that can better prepare residents in the event of a fire.

“Sound The Alarm” provides Walton County residents north of the Choctawhatchee Bay with free smoke detectors for their homes.

“This is about protecting the residents of Walton County,” says Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “The ‘Sound The Alarm’ program provides members of our community with a simple resource that can make a significant difference in the event of a fire.”

Residents who could benefit from this program are encouraged to fill out a “Sound The Alarm” form on the Walton County Sheriff’s Office website at waltonso.org. Those unable to fill out the form online can also call our non-emergency line at (850) 892-8111 and ask to speak with Fire Marshal Jeremy Radney.

Once your information is submitted, you will be added to a list and a member of Walton County Fire Rescue will reach out to set up an installation date. All smoke detectors are provided by American Red Cross.

“We are grateful to partner with American Red Cross providing another service to help keep our residents safe and better serve our community,” said Adkinson.
