Basic Civilian Firearms Courses

People holding pistolsThe Basic Civilian Firearms Safety Program is held multiple times per year and is a six-hour course from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM detailing the basic safety and shooting fundamentals for most handguns. It is generally held on Saturdays and is instructed by the WCSO Training section.

Completion of the course allows the participants to apply for their concealed carry permit which may be completed through the Walton County Tax Collector’s Office. Participants should bring 50 rounds of ammunition for their weapons. Firearms can be provided by the WCSO to attendees so that they can make an educated decision before they buy. If you need to use one of our handguns, please contact Tammy Godwin prior to class so that arrangements can be made.

An Advanced Civilian Firearms Course is available once you have completed the basic course.

The cost of the Basic Civilian Firearms Course is FREE for all 2024 classes thanks to a grant received by Walton County Sheriff’s Office. However, you must pre-register by using our secure online registration form (links below). Participants must be 21 years or older to participate in the Basic Civilian Firearms Course.

If you have questions, please email Keith Hargrove at [email protected].

Note: Class seats are only guaranteed AFTER you register. If WCSO must cancel a class, your registration will be moved to the next available class. No guaranteed transfers will be given due to failed attendance or cancellation by the registrant.
