Basic Civilian Firearms Courses
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer the Basic Civilian Firearms Safety Program several times throughout the year. This six-hour course, held from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., provides hands-on instruction in essential firearm safety and fundamental shooting skills for most handguns. Classes are typically held on Saturdays and taught by our training division.
The course meets the training requirement needed to apply for your concealed carry permit, which can be completed through the Walton County Tax Collector’s Office.
Participants are required to bring their own handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition to the course. Please ensure your firearm is clean, functional, and ready for use. Ammunition and firearms will not be provided by WCSO.
The course fee is $50 per participant, and pre-payment is required to secure your seat. Registration must be completed in advance using our online registration form. Participants must be 21 years of age or older.

PLEASE NOTE: Your seat is confirmed only after registration and payment are completed. If WCSO must cancel a class, your registration will be moved to the next available session. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer guaranteed transfers for missed classes or participant cancellations.
