HOME AUTO SHOP SEVERELY DAMAGED AFTER MULTIPLE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRE IN DEFUNIAK SPRINGS

DeFuniak Springs, Fla— A structure fire rips through a Walton County resident’s home auto shop causing multiple explosions in DeFuniak Springs.

At approximately 4:40 PM Friday afternoon, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a residential building involved in a structure fire on Corbin Gainey Road. The homeowner stated he had just left his private auto shop when he noticed flames coming the nearby building.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found the homeowner’s private garage engulfed in flames threatening a nearby barn housing livestock. During the blaze, small, pressurized aerosol cans began exploding inside the building. Shortly after, the drive shaft of the vehicle found inside the garage exploded sending heavy black smoke into the residential area.

Walton County Fire Rescue firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to the barn. The resident’s garage suffered extensive damage, but no one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
