SANTA ROSA BEACH MAN ARRESTED FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT IMPERSONATION

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— A Santa Rosa Beach man is charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.
On May 7th, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle that appeared to be designed to look like a cop car with a “Santa Rosa Beach Police” badge insignia on the side of the vehicle, along with the word “POLICE” on the sides and back of the vehicle.
Additionally, the vehicle was equipped with a light bar, lights in the back window, and a spotlight on the A-frame.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 61-year-old James Edward Pearson. He was unable to provide any law enforcement credentials. Investigation revealed he does not work in a law enforcement capacity, nor does he have law enforcement credentials.
Pearson was arrested and charged with unlawful use of badges or other indicia of authority and false personation. He was given a $25,000 bond and has been released. The vehicle was towed and impounded.
“This is not only a danger to the public, but to law enforcement as well,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “I commend deputies for acting swiftly by taking this vehicle off the roadway.”
