Pet Identification
Collar with ID Tag
In the event of an emergency, make sure your dog or cat is wearing a collar with an identification tag including your pet’s name and your phone number.
Microchip
Take your pet to your local veterinary clinic and have your dog or cat microchipped. A microchip ID is a small computer chip that is implanted under the animal’s skin between the shoulder blades. Unlike a collar, a microchip cannot be removed or lost. When your lost pet is found, the microchip can be scanned by equipment that most animal control agencies, humane organizations, and veterinary clinics carry as part of their regular equipment.
Make sure your pet’s microchip ID is registered online and is up-to-date with all of the necessary information. All pets adopted from the Walton County Animal Shelter received a microchip. So, if you failed to register your pet’s microchip, the finder of your lost pet will be referred to the Walton County Animal Shelter for your information.
Photo ID
In the event of an emergency, it is recommended that you keep recent photos of your pets on you at all times in case you get separated from your animals during a storm.
