TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING SHOOTING NEAR WAGON WHEEL IN DEFUNIAK SPRINGS

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— An adult and juvenile have been arrested following a shooting in DeFuniak Springs Saturday.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau arrested Armand Holmes, 19, and Memphis Carter, 16, for shooting within 1,000 feet of a person, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The charges stem from an incident on May 11th where Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wagon Wheel Bar on State Highway 83 following the report of a shooting.

Witnesses described a small black vehicle driving by the bar and heard gunfire in the area. A canvas of the area was conducted. Thankfully, no one was hit, and no property was damaged.

Within hours, the suspect vehicle was located on Raphael Road in DeFuniak Springs.

After gathering video evidence and witness statements and conducting multiple interviews, Holmes and Carter were identified as suspects.

Holmes was taken into custody Thursday morning by the members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and the U.S. Marshals Taskforce on W Honeysuckle Street in Mossy Head. He was transported and booked to the Walton County Jail and is awaiting first appearance.

Carter was remanded while appearing in court Thursday afternoon for a separate case. He was transported and booked in the Walton County Jail and then transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.

“Our investigators continue to make good on our commitment to holding criminals accountable,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “Their hard work has put five people behind bars in the last two weeks as the result of two separate shooting incidents.”

“While we are thankful no one was injured in this particular case, we hope this sends a message to those who consider such acts in the future.”

This incident continues to be investigated by our agency. Additional information will be released once it is available.
