SWAT STANDOFF LEADS TO ARREST OF ARMED SUSPECT FOLLOWING DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Walton County, Fla— A Freeport man is now behind bars after pointing a gun at his girlfriend and her children.

At 10:30pm Friday evening Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman stating she had been involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, later identified as Kyle McMullen, 31, at a home on Kylea Laird Drive. During the altercation the victim said McMullen pulled a gun and pointed it at her while she was holding one of her children and stated he would kill her and her kids. The victim also stated Kyle told her he would kill any law enforcement who entered the house to try to take him into custody. The victim told dispatchers there were several guns in the home and lots of ammo.

Several attempts were made by the responding deputies to make contact with the suspect. After approximately one hour the WCSO SWAT team was notified and responded. The team made entry into the residence after SWAT Negotiators were unable to establish contact McMullen.  He was taken into custody without incident.

“The professionalism of our SWAT team members and the deputies on patrol prevented this from resulting in a tragedy,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “Thanks to our training the suspect was taken into custody safely and all law enforcement returned home.”

“We’ve had over a dozen barricaded suspects in the last few years and all have been taken into custody safely. It’s unfortunate, but it may not always turn out this way.”

McMullen is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple battery, domestic violence, and child endangerment.
