WALTON COUNTY FIRE RESCUE LAUNCHES NEW CAR SEAT SAFETY PROGRAM
Ensuring the safety of children while traveling is a top priority for Walton County Fire Rescue and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. To assist parents and caregivers in properly selecting and installing car seats, we are pleased to introduce our Car Seat Safety Program. This initiative is designed to provide expert guidance and hands-on assistance, ensuring that children are secured correctly while on the road.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car seats have saved over 11,000 children under the age of 5 since 1975. However, research shows that nearly 46% of car seats are installed incorrectly, significantly increasing the risk of injury. Our certified Car Seat Safety Technicians are available to assist with:
- Selecting the appropriate car seat based on a child’s weight and height.
- Ensuring correct installation to maximize safety.
- Identifying when it is time to transition to a different car seat.
“Many parents and caregivers believe their car seats are installed correctly, but nearly half have some form of improper installation,” said Fire Chief Austin Pugh. “A quick, free car seat check can make a significant difference in protecting your child while traveling.”
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to schedule a free car seat check or installation assistance by filling out a request form at https://waltonso.org/car-seat-safety/. A certified technician will then contact you to arrange an appointment.
