Lost Pets

Has your pet wandered away from home? Stray or lost animals are brought into the Walton County Animal Shelter by Animal Control Officers daily. Our mission at WCAS is to return all lost animals that are well taken care of back to their rightful owners. HOW CAN I BRING MY LOST PET HOME?

Please give us a call or stop by the shelter to pick up your pet. You must provide proof of rabies when you come to pick up your lost animal. If you do not have proof of rabies, your pet must receive a rabies shot before leaving the shelter. Please note, you will have to pay a small kennel fee when retrieving your pet.

WHAT IF MY PET IS NOT LISTED IN THE LOST PET SECTION?

If your pet is not listed on the found cats, found dogs and found livestock pages, they may still be at the Walton County Animal Shelter. Stray or lost animals are held for three days before they become available for adoption. Once they become available for adoption, they are moved to the Adopt A Pet section of our website. Please click on the below links for a detailed list of all animals currently available for adoption at WCAS. If you find your pet in the adoption available section of our website, you can still come and pick up your pet. Please give us a call or stop by the shelter for more information.

New Microchip Scanners in Walton County!

We’re excited to announce that six microchip scanning locations are now available throughout Walton County, with the first station ready outside of the Walton County Shelter. These easy-access stations are ready to help you reunite lost pets with their families.

If you find a dog, (yes, even cats)and it’s after hours, just visit one of the locations below to scan for a microchip. Step-by-step instructions are posted to guide you through the process—if a chip is found, you’ll know exactly what to do. If no chip is found, you can call 850-892-8682 to have an ACO pick up during business hours.
