FIREFIGHTERS SAVE WALTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DEPUTY’S HOME

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla—Firefighters knock down flames consuming the second story of a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s home in DeFuniak Springs.

At 11:28 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2018, Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a structure fire on Pine Hill Drive. First responders arrived on scene to find heavy fire engulfing the second floor of the home. The second floor roof had partially collapsed onto the deck of the home.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the master bedroom and the master bathroom where the fire originated, saving the rest of the home from severe damage. Fortunately, no residents were home at the time of the fire.

“I am proud of our men and women at Walton County Fire Rescue and the firefighters with DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Liberty Volunteer Fire Department,” says Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “Their quick response and expertise helped save a large portion of our deputy’s home from severe damage.”

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but is believed to be accidental in nature. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents of the damaged home.
