At approximately 10:27 AM, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a house fire on Punch Bowl Road. The caller, who was driving by the home, noticed heavy smoke coming from the structure and quickly called for help.

Walton County Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene to find thick smoke pouring from a single-story home. Firefighters jumped into action and were able to quickly knock down the flames, bringing the situation under control within minutes.

Fortunately, the resident of the home was not there when the fire started, and no civilians were injured. One Walton County firefighter sustained minor burns while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Walton County Fire Rescue offered to contact the American Red Cross for assistance, but the resident declined.

“While we’re saddened that a resident lost their home today, we’re thankful that no one was home at the time of the fire,” said Fire Chief Austin Pugh. “Our crews responded quickly and did a great job containing the fire and preventing further damage.”
