DRIVER NEARLY COLLIDES WITH DEPUTY; ARRESTED FOR DUI, TRAFFICKING METH
WALTON COUNTY, Fla— A Freeport man is arrested for driving under the influence and trafficking methamphetamine after nearly causing a crash with a deputy on 331 S.
Just before midnight on January 7th, a Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy was driving south on 331 S approaching the intersection of Highway 20 when a driver pulled out from a gas station without stopping and crossed three lanes directly in front of the deputy.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and noted that the vehicle’s registration had expired. Once the deputy stopped the car in the CEFCO parking lot, both the driver and passenger opened their doors, trying to get out. The deputy directed both of them to stay seated.
The driver was identified as Bart Maxwell Bishop, 59, of Inez Drive in Freeport. When searching Bishop, a bag with a white substance was found in his waistband. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 10.5 grams. A search of the vehicle revealed two more bags of meth that, combined, weighed more than 10 grams.
Bishop was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine and DUI and was transported to the Walton County Jail. He was issued a $50,000 bond and is still incarcerated at the time of this release.
