This morning, Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a mutual aid request from the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department following reports of a structure fire at the Burger King located on U.S. Highway 331 South in DeFuniak Springs.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., units from Walton County Fire Rescue arrived on scene to assist DeFuniak Springs firefighters, along with volunteers from Liberty Volunteer Fire District and Argyle Volunteer Fire District. Smoke was visible from the front right corner of the building when crews arrived. Firefighters worked together for more than 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated the building before fire crews arrived. So, no one was injured in the fire.

“We take pride in working side-by-side with our partner agencies to protect life and property,” said Fire Chief Austin Pugh of Walton County Fire Rescue. “Today’s response is a great example of teamwork across departments and districts. We’re grateful everyone made it out safely.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
