LIFEVACS DONATED TO WCSO SCHOOL RESOURCE DEPUTIES
December 16, 2024
WALTON COUNTY, FLA— A tool to help prevent choking is now available to every School Resource Deputy in Walton County thanks to Florida Panhandle businesses and a non-profit organization.
The LifeVac, a safe and simple-to-use device, was made to benefit anyone who is choking, but especially those who may have a disability or physical difference that prevents other methods from being used.
Now, thanks to Motorcycle Riding Events of America, a 501C3 Non-Profit, Fast Signs of Fort Walton Beach, and Pensacola Bay Defenders Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club these devices are making their way into the hands of first responders across the Panhandle.
Shane Forsman, the President of Motorcycle Riding Events of America, saw the rising need for the LifeVac working as a deputy for Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
“Our vision is to eventually get a minimum of one LifeVac in every school across the state of Florida,” said Forsman. “We have AEDS, fire extinguishers, and stop the bleed kits – we need a LifeVac nearby as well.”
According to LifeVac’s website, the device has saved more than 3,000 lives by providing a critical solution to choking.
Forsman garnered the support of Kevin Goodyear Towing and Eastern Diesel & Auto Wrecker Service Inc. to provide funds to purchase LifeVac devices for Walton County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies.
“We are grateful for this donation and look forward to providing these to all of our Walton County deputies in the future,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
Once SRDs are provided training on the LifeVac and how to use it, each will be assigned one to keep at their respective schools.
