WALTON COUNTY, FLA— An illegal immigrant from Mexico is charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle in Santa Rosa Beach Wednesday. No injuries have been reported following the incident.

Wednesday afternoon, Walton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Bella Boulevard following a call regarding a shooting in the area.

Witnesses told deputies Jose Cruz Michua, 29, of Mexico, stopped in a pick-up truck in front of an address where they were working and fired two shots in the air from a handgun. Witnesses indicated this has been an ongoing feud between those involved.

During the investigation, a spent shell casing was found below a work van located in front of the residence.

Deputies located Michua at his home where he admitted he was the driver of the pickup truck but said it had been parked for the last several hours. After a search of the vehicle, a spent shell casing matching the one found near the van was found below the windshield wipers of Michua’s truck.

Michua was arrested for discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer, otherwise known as an ICE hold, on Michua. Michua was issued a $10,000 bond.

If Michua makes bond, ICE will have 48 hours from that point to assume custody. If Michua does NOT post bond, he will stay in custody until the completion of the judicial process in Walton County at which time ICE will be given 48 hours to take custody.
