MORRISON SPRINGS FIGHT LEADS TO ARREST OF DEFUNIAK SPRINGS MAN; VICTIM TRANSPORTED BY WALTON AIR RESCUE
A 22-year-old DeFuniak Springs man is arrested for aggravated battery following a fight at Morrison Springs Sunday night that led to the victim being airlifted.
On Sunday, August 18th at 7 pm, Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Morrison Springs after a fight broke out that left a 19-year-old unconscious.
Holmes County Sheriff’s Office assisted our agency in responding.
Because of the extent of the victim’s injuries, Walton County Fire Rescue determined it was necessary for him to be transported involuntarily.
A WCFR ambulance brought the victim to a landing zone nearby, and he was transported to an area hospital by Walton Air Rescue, Florida.
Multiple witnesses identified the suspect as Romeo Warren, 22, of S Norwood Road in DeFuniak Springs. Warren fled before law enforcement got on scene.
After unsuccessful attempts to locate Warren at different addresses Sunday, he was arrested Monday morning after a Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped him driving his car on Highway 90 in DeFuniak Springs.
In a proactive measure, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Walton County Parks and Recreation has provided a deputy at Morrison Springs on the weekends to deter this type of behavior.
“It’s clear that the suspect only felt emboldened when he knew law enforcement was no longer present,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
“This is evident as he waited until the deputy to leave to start a fight that ended up sending someone to the hospital.”
Warren is charged with felony aggravated assault and is awaiting first appearance at the Walton County Jail.
