CREATING A COMMUNITY CANVAS; WCSO ART IN THE PARK REVISITS HELEN MCALL PARK
WALTON COUNTY, FLA— In a colorful celebration of local talent, four high school art students have been awarded scholarships for their exceptional work featured at Helen McCall Park as a part of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Art in the Park project.
After a competitive selection process showcasing the creativity and artistic skills of students at South Walton High School, four were chosen to embark on a project transforming buildings within the park into a community mural.
The aspiring artists, 9th graders Fernanda Reyes, Mikah Jolly, Maria Santiz-Gomez, and 10th grader Schae Kramer began outlining their awarded pieces last week and are in the process of completing their vibrant journey to bring their visions to life.
The Art in the Park initiative was started by Walton County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Mark Wendel in 2020 as a crime reduction strategy to curb graffiti, tagging, and other criminal mischief in public spaces.
Now, the effort not only celebrates student’s achievements but also aims to foster a deeper appreciation for art and culture within the community.
Community members are encouraged to visit Helen McCall Park to witness the art in action. Keep an eye on the transformation and show support for our local artists who are making a mark, quite literally, at parks across Walton County.
