WALTON COUNTY FIRE RESCUE KNOCKS DOWN SECOND STRUCTURE FIRE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS
Walton County Fire Rescue (WCFR) responded to their second residential fire in less than 24 hours early this morning.
Approximately 14 hours after clearing the scene of a residential fire in Mossy Head, WCFR received notification of a second house fire just south of the city of DeFuniak Springs. At 2:51 a.m. on Monday, March 11th, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on Chestnut Street. The caller stated a mobile home was on fire and was threatening neighboring houses.
WCFR crews arrived on scene and confirmed flames engulfing a double-wide mobile home. City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department crews showed up moments later to assist Walton County Fire Rescue at the scene. Firefighters quickly deployed an attack line and began extinguishing the flames. Volunteers with Liberty and Argyle volunteer districts also responded to provide water support.
In just fifteen minutes, firefighters had the blaze knocked down, keeping the fire from spreading and damaging other nearby residences.
Fortunately, no one was home at the time the fire broke out.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an official investigation into the cause of the blaze.
