FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS DEFUNIAK SPRINGS MOM, DAD, AND ADULT SON ON METH DISTRIBUTION CHARGES
WALTON COUNTY, FLA—–A DeFuniak Springs mother, father, and their adult son are convicted on federal charges for the distribution of methamphetamine.
On January 16, 2023, the DeFuniak Springs Police Department pulled over a Dodge Ram operated by Philip Beck, 47, of N 6th Street in DeFuniak Springs, and discovered approximately 28 grams of meth.
On March 10, 2023, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted two packages suspected of containing narcotics mailed from California to addresses in Niceville and DeFuniak Springs. Beck was connected to both addresses.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office K-9 “Jax” alerted to the packages which revealed two protein powder containers with a total of 10 pounds of methamphetamine inside. The investigation confirmed the drugs were planned to be distributed and sold in Walton County.
An investigation done by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office VICE/Narcotics Unit, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Drug Enforcement Administration revealed that Philip Beck, 47, his son Joshua Martinez, 27, and Florence Beck, 46, were the intended recipients of the drug parcels.
All three were found guilty by a federal jury of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The guilty verdict, returned after a four-day trial, was announced by Jason R. Coody, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida Wednesday, March 8th.
Sentencing is set for May 30, 2024, at the United States Courthouse in Pensacola.
Philip Beck and Florence Beck face minimum mandatory sentences of 10 years in federal prison. Joshua Martinez, due to a prior conviction, faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years. The maximum sentence for each is life in prison.
