FIRST RESPONDERS SAVE MOSSY HEAD RESIDENT FROM STRUCTURE FIRE
Firefighters and deputies pull one patient from a burning home in Mossy Head early this morning.
At 7:38 a.m., the Walton County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire on W Orange Blossom Road. WCFR firefighters arrived on scene moments later and confirmed smoke and flames coming from the front door of a single-story home. WCFR made entry into the residence. During their preliminary search, one patient was found unresponsive in a back bedroom. Walton County Fire Rescue crews immediately lifted the patient out of the bedroom window where Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies and volunteers with Argyle Volunteer Fire Department were waiting to assist in providing aid to the patient.
With assistance from WCSO deputies, WCFR paramedics performed life-saving measures on the unresponsive resident. First responders were able to regain a pulse before the patient was life-flighted to a local hospital by Walton Air Rescue.
DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and volunteers from Liberty volunteer fire district also responded to the scene and assisted in knocking down the flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and is responding to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
