SUSPECT IN PINEHURST ROAD SHOOTING CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— A suspect in a deadly shooting in early October in Santa Rosa Beach has been charged with manslaughter.

Mugshot of an adult man with short hair and a trimmed beard, wearing a red collared jail uniform, standing against a plain light-blue background.

On the morning of October 1st, Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at a home on East Pinehurst Drive for a civil service call. After leaving the residence, deputies heard gunfire coming from inside the house.

An investigation revealed a verbal dispute between the victim and the suspect, 27-year-old Mario Anthony Streete, quickly escalated into a physical altercation over an ongoing issue regarding Streete moving out of the residence.

Witnesses inside the home reported that during the fight in the living room, a firearm was discharged by the victim’s husband to try to separate the victim and Streete. After the initial shots, the victim engaged Streete again, pushing him into a bedroom and shutting the door. At that time, there was no active threat to Streete.

However, once separated from the victim, Streete then retrieved a firearm from a bedroom, loaded it, and fired nine rounds toward the victim and her husband as they tried to flee the home. Streete was no longer near the victim or her husband.

The victim was struck and killed during the exchange. Streete also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Although Streete was shot during the altercation, multiple witness statements — including his own — confirmed that after the fight had ended and there was no longer any threat to him, he fired his weapon and killed the victim.

Streete was served the warrant while still incarcerated at the Walton County Jail and given no bond at first appearance Friday, October 31st. This investigation is still ongoing.
