WALTON COUNTY, FLA— One person is dead, and another is wounded following a shooting incident on Pinehurst Drive in Santa Rosa Beach.

Just after 9 am, Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Pinehurst Drive in reference to a civil matter. While on scene, a civil process deputy arrived at the same residence for a pre-scheduled eviction notification.

As deputies were leaving the residence following their investigation, they heard gunfire coming from inside the residence. A deputy informed dispatch of shots fired at 10:20 am.

One person died on scene and another sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported by South Walton Fire District.

The Office of the State Attorney First Judicial Circuit responded to the scene.

No deputies were involved in the exchange of gunfire. All parties were known to each other. This is believed to be an isolated incident.

This incident is still under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
