RETIRED WCSO SERGEANT ANDY TILLIS PASSES AWAY
DeFuniak Springs, Fla— On October 8th the Walton County Sheriff’s Office lost a dedicated servant of the community.
Sergeant Andy Tillis passed away at his home on East Indian Creek Ranch Road on Saturday morning. Tillis served more than 20 years in law enforcement and retired in December of 2015 after falling ill.
The Sheriff sent an email to employees Saturday afternoon:
“I am deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of retired Sergeant Andy Tillis. Andy has struggled with health problems for the last few years. But, Andy was one who always maintained his sense of humor. Before his retirement, the agency was performing routine checks about zone activity. While doing that we found that Andy had written 96 reports for the year while working the Red Bay zone. The most any other deputy in his zone was eight reports. He was the only deputy north of the bay to do anything close to that level of activity; all while working in the slowest zone in the county. Add to it that, at the time, Andy was in his 23rd year on the job. I think that tells you a lot about Andy’s love for the people he worked with and the people he served.
I know Andy was a believer and we discussed his faith many times. Today, Andy suffers no more and is well in the presence of his father. Andy was a good man and I will miss him. Godspeed.
