16-YEAR-OLD FROM TEXAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FIRING BB GUN AT FAMILY IN SANTA ROSA BEACH

A 16-year-old visiting from Texas has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery for shooting a BB gun from a vehicle on 30a.

Deputies responded to Adagio Condos Saturday evening following the report of a dark sedan rolling down a passenger window and firing approximately 20 rounds from a BB gun at a family walking home from dinner.

The BBs struck kids ages 10, 15, and 17 years of age.

FLOCK was utilized and a vehicle matching the description was located around two miles west of their location with a Texas tag.

Deputies located the vehicle in Seaside, where a perimeter was placed and Seaside property was checked. The black Audi was parked near Seaside School, with a visible Glock-19, Co2 style BB gun lying in the rear passenger floorboard.

Deputies waited near the vehicle when two individuals returned. A 16-year-old out of Texas was developed as a suspect and deputies used one of the individual’s Snapchat to locate the teen nearby.

The 16-year-old later admitted to deputies he shot his Glock 19 BB gun at people walking on the sidewalk. He was charged with aggravated battery, shooting deadly missiles from a vehicle, and child abuse. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

This is not the first such instance of this happening during Spring Break in Walton County. BBs can cause serious harm to those on the receiving end. This type of behavior is not a game.

Not only is it dangerous for those being shot at, but a weapon of this kind can be mistaken for a real gun, putting others in fear for their lives. Anyone shooting one of these runs the risk of being shot at in return – possibly with a real weapon.
