In the wake of a local Walton County junior varsity player collapsing during baseball practice last month, Sheriff Mike Adkinson and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office is donating five AED’s to be placed at the following locations: Paxton Little League Field, Defuniak Springs Little League Field, Defuniak Springs Youth Football Program, Freeport Little League and the Freeport Youth Football Program and South Walton Little League and the South Walton Youth Football Program.  An AED is a portable electronic device that can assist in diagnosing and treating heart attacks.  Minimally trained/non-medical personnel can easily use it.  However, the Sheriff’s Office Training Division will be providing instruction. Sheriff Mike Adkinson stated, “When we found out we had youth recreational fitness areas in our community that did not have these AED’s, it became a top priority for our organization.  At the WCSO, the safety and well-being of our children is our number one concern and that is why we were pleased to get this done in such a short period of time.”

Will Whitehurst, President of the Walton County Athletic League stated, “Thank you to the Sheriff and the Sheriff’s Office for this opportunity.  It is an investment for our community.”  President of the Defuniak Springs Little League, Kevin Wilkerson stated, “I want to thank the Sheriff’s Office for their contribution to our community and with 350 to 400 kids, parents and grandparents, this will be a huge asset.”
