On Tuesday, May 6th, numerous burglaries were reported in a subdivision in the Defuniak Springs area. Trenton Louis Metzler, 16, of Defuniak Springs, was observed by witnesses entering their vehicles or gaining entry onto their property. Witnesses described what Metzler was wearing as well as that he had an open wound on his nose. Metzler fled on foot once he saw a deputy patrolling the area. The deputy ordered Metzler to stop, exited his patrol vehicle and pursued him on foot. Metzler stated “you’re not going to catch me” but was apprehended shortly thereafter. Metzler was placed under arrest and received medical attention for the wounds he sustained to his face while running through the woods. He was then transported to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Jail. While in the patrol car, Metzler became agitated and began to kick the door window bars. For his safety and the safety of the deputy, Metzler was shackled.
Metzler is charged with three counts of burglary, larceny, resisting an officer without violence and three charges of battery on a law enforcement officer for being combative and biting, kicking, hitting and spitting at three detention deputies.
