Captain Gainey is Chief of Jail Operations for the Walton County Jail. Captain Gainey has over eighteen years of law enforcement experience, beginning with Walton County Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a Corrections Officer. After obtaining dual certifications in corrections and law enforcement in 1998, he transferred into law enforcement as a patrol deputy and went on to hold various positions with the Sheriff’s Office including court security, patrol deputy, beach patrol deputy, K-9 deputy and narcotics investigator. In January of 2008 Captain Gainey left the Sheriff’s Office to assume the position of Support Services Sergeant with Walton County Department of Corrections. In June of 2011 he became the Professional Standards Commander with Walton County Department of Corrections and in December of 2013 he became interim Captain. When the Sheriff’s Office resumed operation of the jail he became the Chief of Jail Operations.

 Captain Gainey has an Associate of Arts degree from Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Criminal Justice. He is a certified Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Instructor, a certified accreditation manager, a certified accreditation assessor and has attended numerous investigation training classes and leadership classes.aa
