  • Suspect Arrested on Multiple Drug Charges Thanks to an Anonymous Tip

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip shortly after midnight on Thursday, October 16th, where the caller stated that a man by the name of Christopher Dwight Ford was driving on Coy Burgess Loop in DeFuniak Springs and may be going to pick up a load of narcotics.  A description of the vehicle was given and the caller stated that Ford may have drugs and a gun inside the vehicle.  A BOLO (Be On The Look Out) was given to Deputies who were patrolling the area.  Deputies located the vehicle at McDonalds, which was described as an older model blue and white Chevy truck.  The tag number on the vehicle was run and it confirmed the vehicle belonged to Ford.  A traffic stop was initiated on I10 after the driver failed to signal as he merged int ...

  • Sexual Offender Albert Jackson Sorrells Change of Address Notification

    Sorrells was adjudicated on 11/19/2002 for sexual abuse 2nd degree and on 05/01/2006 for failure to register as a sex offender in Covington County, AL.  Sorrells current address is 22823 US Hwy 331 North, Laurel Hill. Sorrells is a 49 year old white male, with gray hair and blue eyes, 6’02” and 180 lbs. There are currently 145 registered sex offenders/predators living in Walton County. The WCSO encourages families to visit www.flsexoffender.net to subscribe to receive e-mail alert notifications when registered sexual offenders or predators move into neighborhoods.  WCSO also encourages citizens to use the neighborhood search feature prior to signing up for alerts to identify registered sexual offenders and predators currently living in neighborhoods.     ...

  • Two Held at Gunpoint by Citizen, Both Arrested for Burglary

      On October 14, 2014, shortly after 6 pm, deputies responded to 167 State Road 85 (Laurel Hill) for a burglary in progress.  A witness saw one male suspect enter the closed convenience store known as Paradise Lotto, through the back of the building.  A red Dodge Dakota pickup truck was at the scene with a female waiting inside.  The male suspect had in his possession several packs of cigarettes and left with the female in the truck traveling towards Florala, AL.  Both suspects returned a few minutes later and pulled up behind another store located next to Paradise Lotto, which was owned by the witness.  The Sheriff’s Office was notified by the witness.  The witness stated that the male suspect was walking towards him and at that point, the witness pulle ...

  • Search Warrant results in two arrests for Methamphetamine Production

    On October 9, 2014, members of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence of Jimmy Ray Thomas, 46, of 316 Juniper Drive in the Choctaw Beach community. The search warrant is part of a lengthy investigation in reference to methamphetamine production in the area. Thomas was arrested and charged with Possession of a controlled substance, Trafficking in methamphetamine, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and Possession of drug paraphernalia.  Kayla Mechelle Ailey, 23, also of 316 Juniper Drive in the Choctaw Beach community was also arrested during the search warrant and charged with Possession of a controlled substance.   • Yearlong investigation leads to arrest for chicken fighting

    In October of 2013 an investigation was opened up on Joseph Aaron Richards, 35, of 407 E. Renoir Rd, DeFuniak Springs, for chicken fighting. On September 25, 2014, members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau executed a search warrant at Richards residence. Several items were found to include publications on conditioning methods for fighting as well as how to prepare special diets prior to fighting the chickens. Richards was also found to be in possession of approximately 50 hens, roosters and biddies.   • Deputies discover unknown burglary

    Michael Charles Huber, 33, of 70 Camp Creek Road 7, Santa Rosa Beach, is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and resisting an officer without violence.  On October 7, 2014, Deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office met with the victim who lived out of state and was notified that he may have had items stolen from his trailer upon discovering that the door was open. The victim did find that items were missing at this time. On October 2, 2014, Deputies had conducted a traffic stop on Huber and remembered seeing items described in the burglary as being in the vehicle.   • Subject arrested for Meth Lab found in pant leg

    On 10-2-14 Patrol Deputies responded to 290 Stillwater Rd, Freeport, FL, in reference to an anonymous call that stated a subject was present that possessed methamphetamine. During their investigation, Deputies discovered an active “One- Pot” methamphetamine lab in the pant leg of Ian Freudenriech, 23, of Defuniak Springs.   Freudenriech was arrested and transported to the Walton County Jail. He was charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Trafficking in Methamphetamine and is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.  ...

  • Sexual Offender Change of Address Notification

      Michael Dean Fatheree was adjudicated on 8/30/1996 in Walton County, Florida, for lewd and lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 – 15.  Fatheree’s new address is 565 B H Reddick Road, Ponce De Leon.  Fatheree is a 36 year old white male with a bald head and brown eyes, 5’10” and 190 lbs.   James Scott Johnson was adjudicated on 05/22/2001 for lewd and lascivious exhibition on a victim under 16 in Walton County, adjudicated on 02/18/2003 for failure to register in Walton County, 10/18/2005 for failure to report as a sex offender in Walton County and on 04/17/2008 for failure to register in Walton County.  Johnson’s current address is 46 Peach Tree Street, Paxton.  Johnson is a 40 year old white male, with brown hair and blue eyes, 5’08” and ...

  • Residential Burglary Leads to Arrest

    At approximately 12:35 a.m., this morning, deputies responded to a home off Santa Barbara Avenue in Santa Rosa Beach, regarding a residential burglary in progress.  The victim found a person standing in the hallway of his home and a struggle took place that lead to the garage.  During the struggle, the suspect struck the victim with a tennis racket and tools off the work bench.  The victim’s wife called the Sheriff’s Office and was able to give a description of the suspect who fled from the scene on a blue mountain bike.  After approximately three minutes on scene at the residence, Deputies made contact with an individual matching the suspect’s description at La Canossa Boulevard and South Church Street.  The victim was able to identify the individual as the person ...

  • Name the K9 “Stuffed” Pup Back to School Kick-Off

      The WCSO K9 Unit and School Resource Deputies are enlisting the help of our Walton County K through 4th grade teachers and students to come up with a name for our K9 “stuffed” pup.  The K9 Unit will choose the name and will present the pup to the winning class.  The winning class will get to keep the pup for the year and at the end, the School Resource Deputy will choose a student out of the class who has shown a “Commitment to Excellence.”   We also plan to engage the community through Facebook and recognize all the classes who submitted a name.  The winner will be announced and a photo opportunity will be done with the classroom, K9 Unit and School Resource Deputy.     Kick-off begins today and all submissions must be given to the School Resourc ...

Citizen Law Enforcement Academy

Citizen-AcademyIn 2013, the WCSO held its first Citizen Law Enforcement Academy. For citizens who want a truly eye opening experience about law enforcement, this is where it all starts. Participants will spend about three hours in a class room once a week for approximately 10 weeks. The Citizen Law Enforcement Academy is a great program for any citizen who wishes to learn more about the field of law enforcement and the Walton County Sheriff's Office. The class is FREE and takes place at the Sheriff's Office Administration building located at 752 Triple G Road, Defuniak Springs. A background check will be conducted on all participants who sign-up.
