Captain Butler began his career in law enforcement in 1984 with the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

Captain Butler served as a correctional officer, working his way through the ranks. During his 29 years of experience, he has served as a patrol deputy, narcotics investigator, beach patrol deputy, lieutenant commander and as Captain in the uniform patrol division.

The Support Services Bureau is managed by Captain Robert Butler, it is staffed with 27 sworn law enforcement officers and 4 support personnel who provide specialized public safety services to the citizens of Walton County and other governmental agencies. In 2013 the division provided support and services for Judicial Services, School Resource Deputies, Warrants, Extradition, Civil Process, and Front Desk. A lieutenant supervises judicial services, warrants, civil process, extradition and the front desk. The school resource deputy program is also supervised by a lieutenant.
