  • FIVE WALMART EMPLOYEES ARRESTED IN SHOPLIFTING SCANDAL

    Santa Rosa Beach, Fla— Five Walmart employees, ages ranging from 19 to 25, are arrested following an organized attempt to steal items from their employer.WCSO deputies responded to the Walmart located in Santa Rosa Beach just before midnight last night regarding a group of store employees stealing merchandise.  Deputies arrived and spoke with Walmart Loss Prevention Officers and collected evidence.  It was determined the five employees, all of whom are from Jamaica, have taken several items over the course of a few weeks.The crimes occurred between Aug 11th and August 22nd on more than one occasion involving all five suspects.   • WCSO K9 UNIT & DEFUNIAK SPRINGS PD TEAM UP IN METH BUST

    DeFuniak Springs, Fla— A DeFuniak Springs man is behind bars after a multi-agency investigation into drugs following a traffic stop Tuesday night. Officer Jonathan Rockett from Defuniak Springs Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 90 and 8th Street on a vehicle with an expired tag.  Officer Rocket requested K9 assistance from the Walton County Sheriff's office. K9 handler Deputy Kristin Pond and partner K9 “Kayne” responded to the scene arriving just before midnight. K9 Kayne was deployed and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle's exterior and alerted to the presence of an illegal drug odor.  A search of the vehicle was conducted.   • PAXTON MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING BOAT & CAMPER TRAILER

    New Harmony, Fla— A Paxton man is behind bars after deputies discover he has stolen a boat and a trailer during two separate thefts in Mossy Head; concealing them in two different locations. Gregory Earley, 55, is accused of entering a parcel on Plantation Lane in Mossy Head between the dates of August 5th and 6th and stealing a Gulfstream camper trailer. Due to surveillance by WCSO investigators, they were able to determine Earley had stored the Gulfstream trailer on a vacant lot in New Harmony – just south of Paxton. It was recovered late Monday night. Between August 10th and August 11th a Whiteline Red Holland fishing boat went missing off Trout Drive in Mossy Head.   • DEFUNIAK SPRINGS MAN ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING FROM POLICE WITH JUVENILES IN CAR

    Defuniak Springs, Fla— On Saturday August 22nd WCSO was conducting a security check in the parking lot of Allstate in Defuniak Springs when they noticed a Black Ford Mustang with Allen Walker, 25, behind the wheel. Deputies confirmed through dispatch Walker was driving without a license. As Walker began to leave the parking lot traveling south toward Bob Sikes Road he immediately rolled up the driver and passenger side windows while exiting the parking lot upon seeing the deputy in his patrol car. Deputies initiated a traffic stop as soon as the vehicle entered the roadway signaling the driver with emergency sirens to stop the vehicle.   • SANTA ROSA BEACH MAN TAZED AFTER KICKING OUT WINDOW OF PATROL CAR

    Santa Rosa Beach, Fla— On August 22, 2015 WCSO deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person complaint near W. Hodge road where they observed a white male, later identified as Burnham Edson, 35, with blood on his face.   Edson was treated on scene by South Walton Fire Rescue and deputies drove to his residence to attempt to make contact with Edson’s wife and friends who were at the home. Due to his level of intoxication and initially giving deputies the wrong address Edson was told he needed to stay in the patrol car for safety reasons. The car was left running so he could have air conditioning.   • RECKLESS DRIVER CAUGHT BY WCSO K9 AFTER FLEEING ON FOOT

    Santa Rosa Beach, Fla— Scratched, cut, and bruised from running through the woods an 18-year-old is now behind bars after a citizen calls to report a reckless driver in Santa Rosa Beach.   On August 20th just before 12:30am WCSO deputies responded to a reckless driver complaint near 30A and Highway 98. The caller told dispatchers the driver of the vehicle was all over the roadway, riding in the median, and speeding in access of 80 miles an hour. Deputies caught up with the vehicle on Allen Loop Drive and as they approached the car the vehicle blew through a stop sign at Allen Loop and Masters Court.   • HOLMES COUNTY ESCAPEE ARRESTED BY WCSO

    DeFuniak Springs, Fla—  On Wednesday August 19th  just before 4:30pm deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Shoemaker Drive in reference to a wanted felon out of Holmes County being spotted in the area. 34-year-old Patrick Owens and his girlfriend 24-year-old Crystal Bailey were arrested on out-of-county warrants out of Holmes County, Fl.   • DRIVER EXCEEDS 90 MILES PER HOUR ON U.S. 98; ARRESTED FOR METH

    Santa Rosa Beach, Fla— On Monday, August 10th at around 7pm deputies were called to a domestic dispute in the area of Murphy’s Gas Station on U.S. Highway 98. As Deputy Allen Pullings was approaching the intersection of West Hewitt Road he pulled into the turn lane for Murphy’s Gas Station and observed a vehicle matching the description of those involved in the domestic violence incident. The vehicle was facing north attempting to turn east onto U.S. Highway 98.  Deputy Pullings recognized the driver as Samantha Stuart, 37, from previous criminal incidents and encounters. Pullings attempted to tell Stuart to pull over, but instead she pulled out onto Highway 98 heading eastbound driving estimated speeds of 90 miles an hour.   • DEFUNIAK SPRINGS MAN ARRESTED FOR 32nd TIME IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

    On August 9th deputies with the WCSO conducted a traffic stop in the area of US Hwy 331 South related to Willie Goldsmith, 33, driving on a suspended license. During this investigation WCSO Sergeant Nick Bearden arrived and deployed K9 “Duko”, which resulted in a positive alert on the vehicle. Deputy Bearden and Deputy Phillip Gaither searched the vehicle and found a “Red Bull” can under the center console, which appeared to be unopened. Sergeant Bearden unscrewed the lid of the can and inside a compartment built inside the can were 4.6 grams of ICE and 5.3 grams of marijuana.  The items were placed inside a 2x6 plastic bag with a red apple printed on it.   • INCARCERATED TEEN CHARGED WITH 11 CRIMES-- THREE CAR THEFTS/EIGHT BURGLARIES

    Santa Rosa Beach, Fla— A Crestview teenager already incarcerated on charges from two different Northwest Florida agencies is served with 11 additional warrants from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. 16-year-old Devon is currently at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview on charges from Niceville Police Department and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. On the night of June 29th into the early morning hours of June 30th a total of eight vehicles were burglarized and four vehicles stolen.  The incidents were linked together by the following facts: A wallet from a stolen Honda Odyssey from Pelican Bay Drive in Santa Rosa Beach was found in a recovered 2011 Chevrolet pickup from Bayou Point Drive.
