    Deputies are on scene at a home in Miramar Beach investigating a death that occurred today. The victim, Ken Long, 50, of Miramar Beach, was hired to repair a dock at a private home off Shore Drive. The homeowner found the victim floating face down in the water. The family has been notified and the cause of death is under investigation. ...

  • Former Public Defender Charged for Racketeering

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office served a felony warrant for Racketeering issued by the State Attorney’s Office on former Public Defender, Leonard Andrew Platteborze, 62, last night around 6 pm.  Charges stem from the June 16th, 2014, search warrants that started Operation Avalanche.  Platteborze was booked into the Walton County Jail on $10,000 bond.   Investigations are on-going and more information will be released once available.   ...

  • Search of Residence Leads to Meth Arrest

      On July 22, 2014, members the Walton County Sheriff’s Office assisted State Probation Officers on an administrative search of 351 Four Mile Road, Freeport.  The resident, Lawrence Aucoin, 35, who was present at the time of the search, was found to be in direct vicinity of used “shake and bake” cook vessels.  The Walton County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit secured a probable cause search warrant for the residence due to the findings of the State Probation Officers.  After the execution of the search warrant, the Vice/Narcotics Unit located muriatic acid, Coleman fuel, lighter fluid, cut lithium batteries and coffee filters in the area where the cook vessels were located previously.     Lawrence Aucion was arrested and charged with Manufacturing of ...

  • After Meth Arrest, Suspect Also Charged with Battery on a LEO

    On July 21, 2014, Investigators with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) began an investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine at 190 Moll Drive, Santa Rosa Beach, FL. During the afternoon hours, a probable cause search warrant was obtained for the residence. During the search, Investigators located several used “One Pot” cooking vessels, muriatic acid, empty boxes of cold medicine, lithium, and syringes. The resident, Joseph Shawn Moll, 32, was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a church and preschool, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Moll was transported to the Walton County Jail where he received an additional charge of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer for striking a ...

  • WCSO Assists South Walton Fire District (SWFD) on a Near-Drowning Call

    Deputies assisted the South Walton Fire District in aiding a six year old girl who was pulled from the bottom of the pool at Tops’l Resort, located at 9001 US Highway 98, around 4 pm this afternoon.  Upon the deputies arrival, the girl had been removed from the pool and CPR had been started by a doctor who was there on vacation.  When the ambulance arrived, the girl was alert and responsive, and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Walton County.  The girl and her family are from Atlanta and visiting the area for a family reunion.  The girl’s condition is unknown at this time.   For further information please contact South Walton Fire District.    ...

  • WCSO Responds to Water Rescue off Scenic Gulf

    Deputies responded to a water rescue in Miramar Beach around 6:20 p.m. this evening.  45 year old Donato Rios of Texas, was reported drowning in the gulf near Monaco Street.  A “good Samaritan” pulled him to shore and an off duty paramedic along with two deputies (one being a medic on the WCSO SWAT Team), took turns giving Rios CPR until EMS arrived.  His pulse was subsequently detected at the scene and he was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Walton County.  Rios is currently listed in critical condition.   ...

Polygraph Unit

polygraphThe Walton County Sheriff's Office Polygraph Unit was created October 2012 and offers forensic polygraph support to law enforcement. The Polygraph Unit is comprised of an expertly trained and certified Forensic Polygraphist. This Polygraphist provides a valuable investigative tool and is utilized for criminal investigations, pre-employment applicants and internal investigations. A total of seventy-one (71) polygraphs were conducted in 2013 with a confession rate of 95%, saving the agency numerous investigative hours and money.

Forensic polygraph examinations are used daily to affirm or dispel individuals suspected in criminal cases for law enforcement agencies. Utilizing this tool assists in narrowing investigative issues and lowers investigative expenses. The Polygraph Unit is often requested to administer examinations for the purposes of law enforcement employment. Every sworn applicant is required to submit to this examination prior to employment with the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

The Polygraph Unit's polygraphist is also a Certified Police Applicant Background Investigator. Before an applicant is hired, a background investigation is conducted by Human Resources on each applicant that applies with the Walton County Sheriff's Office. The polygraphist assists Human Resources with this task and any additional background duties at their request.

The Polygraph Unit continues to perform at the highest level of professionalism within the Professional Standards Division. The commitment and dedication of the Forensic Polygraphist remains the model for the Polygraph Unit within the Walton County Sheriff's Office.
