  • WCSO to Host Teen Driver Challenge

      Did you know that teen drivers are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash as other drivers?  The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the safety of our young drivers and is offering a program called the Teen Driver Challenge.  It is a free course designed to help teens boost their driving skills and lessen the chances of being involved in a crash.  The program will provide a mixture of classroom instruction and hands-on driver training.  The classroom portion will take place on Friday, September 5th at Walton High School, located at 449 Walton Road, Defuniak Springs, in room 20-121 from 5 pm to 9 pm.  The driving portion will take place at 8 am on Saturday, September 6th, at the Walton County Fairgrounds located at 790 North Hwy ...

  • Back to School Safety

      Most children think of school as their second home - a place where they feel safe.  On Monday, August 18, students will return to school and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind motorists to allow for extra traveling time and be alert for school zones and school buses. The fine for failing to stop for a school bus in Walton County is $161.00.  Motorists are prohibited by state law to pass a school bus that is displaying a “stop” signal.  All traffic in both directions must come to a complete stop for school buses that are stopped, displaying the “stop” signal.  Traffic traveling in the opposite direction is exempt from stopping if the roadway is separated by a fence or other physical barrier or by an unpaved median at least five feet wide.   • WCSO Encourages Citizens to Use LeadsOnline

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging citizens and businesses to use a FREE resource to protect valuable property.  LeadsOnline, the nation’s largest online investigation system, aides law enforcement agencies to solve cases, recover stolen property, provide rapid electronic access to transactions from thousands of reporting businesses including scrap metal processors, secondhand stores, Internet drop-off stores, and pawn shops across the country, as well as critical information from eBay listings for criminal investigations.   • Search for Missing/Runaway Juvenile

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Daniella Aldrich, 17, of Santa Rosa Beach.  Aldrich was last seen by her mother on Monday, August 11th.  Aldrich is 5’7, weighs 120 lbs and has pale skin, long brown hair and brown eyes.  She was last seen wearing short denim shorts with a black tank top and black vans shoes.  She wears prescription glasses and was carrying a black purse.  Anyone with information on Daniella Aldrich is asked to please contact Sergeant Angie Hogeboom at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office at 850.892.8111.      ...

  • Traffic stop leads to large seizure of pills and cash

      On August 8, 2014, Deputy Biernacki observed a green Buick Le Sabre traveling southbound on US Hwy 331 that was unable to maintain its lane and caused a semi-truck to run off the road almost causing an accident. The Deputy was able to conduct a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Ms. Jo Anna Parsons, 50yoa, of  Ebro, Florida. A warrants check made through dispatch revealed that Parsons had a warrant for her arrest on the charges of battery and trespassing out of Washington County, Florida. As the deputy went to make the arrest, Parsons became argumentative and refused to exit her vehicle. After speaking with Parsons further, she was placed under arrest.   • Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Lab

    On Saturday, August 2, 2014, Deputy Gibson was attempting to locate John Geralds, of 127 Center Street, Freeport, who had warrants out of Okaloosa County. Deputy Gibson had gathered information that led him to believe Geralds was traveling with a Jonathan Brown, also of 127 Center St Freeport, in a white Yukon.  While in the area of Juniper Avenue, Deputy Gibson observed the Yukon and eventually stopped the vehicle.  Brown exited the vehicle and spoke to the Deputy. Throughout the conversation it was learned that Geralds was in fact at Brown’s residence and that there was an active methamphetamine lab.   • Suspect Arrested After Soliciting a Juvenile

      On Sunday, August 3, 2014, Jeffrey Michael Curzio of Freeport, FL, was arrested for Obscene Communication: Use of a computer to seduce, solicit, lure a child, which is a 3rd degree Felony.   Between the dates of June 30th, 2014 and July 2nd, 2014, Curzio communicated with a juvenile female using a cellular phone application called “KIK Messenger.”  Duing the conversations, Curzio made numerous statements soliciting the juvenile female to send sexual photographs and to engage in sexual activity.   Curzio is currently in the Walton County Department of Corrections on a $25,000 bond.   ...

Training

training-01The mission of the Training Section is to provide all employees with training opportunities that will develop and enhance their individual skills while respecting the diversity of the individual and their unique talents. This section provides cutting-edge training that reflects current and future trends in law enforcement and prepares the individual with the skills necessary for today's law enforcement professional.

Training is the cornerstone of the WCSO. To maintain a professional and progressive law enforcement agency, all employees must be trained and become proficient in all aspects of this profession. The training section strives to provide the highest quality training that reflects national trends in law enforcement.

training-2The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requires all state certified law enforcement officers to receive 40 hours of mandatory re-training every four years. The WCSO believes in the benefits of training and requires all deputies to attend the mandatory annual training. This training covers a broad spectrum ranging from: ethics, customer service, communications, leadership, current trends and changes in the law enforcement environment, case preparation, and officer safety (including firearms and defensive tactics).

Our training department serves as a clearing house for many types of training. Examples include: roll-call training, in-service training, mandatory training, continuing adult education, specialized training, and outside seminars and classes. In addition to the opportunities provided for our members, both sworn and non-sworn, we also provide training to the community in the form of firearms safety classes.
