  • Search for Missing Person, Allan McNelis

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Allan McNelis, 67, of Santa Rosa Beach.  McNelis was last seen Sunday morning (11/23), wearing a yellow button down shirt, khaki pants, brown lace-up boots and a black Kangol brand cap, which he wears backwards.  McNelis is a white male, with a thin build, standing 6’01” and weighing approximately 165 pounds.  He has medium length white/grey hair, brown eyes and a goatee.  Anyone with information on Allan McNelis is asked to please contact Sergeant Angie Hogeboom at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office at 850.892.8111.      ...

  • WCSO Nets Five Arrests After Meth Lab Bust

      On Wednesday, November 19, 2014, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit served a probable cause search warrant at 103 Santa Rosa Street, Santa Rosa Beach.  Investigators located an active “one-pot” methamphetamine lab, along with over 200 grams of bi-layer liquids which is suspected to be meth oil.  Investigators also found pre-curser chemicals and used syringes lying throughout the small camper trailer.  Upon execution of the warrant, the following individuals were arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia:   Troy Lynn Roberts, 37, 103 Santa Rosa Street, Santa Rosa Beach   Taylor Alexis Gates, 20, 103 Santa Rosa Street, Santa Rosa Beach   Samuel D ...

  • Joint Investigation Leads to Arrest

           A joint investigation between Walton County, Holmes County, Washington County and Jackson County Sheriff’s Offices led to the arrest of Justin Ryan Tankersley, 28, of 2907 Cosson Rd, DeFuniak Springs, Florida.             On 10/31/2014, a Yamaha motorcycle had been stolen from a residence in DeFuniak Springs. On 11/11/2014, Investigators with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office conducted an interview with Tankersley at his residence in reference to items that had been stolen from their county.   • WCSO Investigating Pizza Delivery Robbery

        On November 19, 2014, around 6:30 pm, deputies were dispatched to Hungry Howies in DeFuniak Springs, in reference to an armed robbery of a pizza delivery person.  The incident occurred off Charlie Brown Road at approximately 5:45 pm.  As the driver parked the vehicle, a white male came from the bushes and approached the driver side window.  The male stated, “I just want the money” and pointed a black handgun at the driver.  The driver removed an undisclosed amount of money from the bank bag and gave it to the male.  The male then turned his head, yelled and a black male, late teens to early twenties, came from the bushes and ran towards the white male where they both ran down Charlie Brown Road (East) to South Norwood Road.   ...

      The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is offering some tips on how to be safe this holiday season.   Shopping Safety Tips   - Always walk and park in well-lit areas. - While out and about, present an alert presence. - Don’t electronically unlock your vehicle until you are within door opening distance.   • Walton County Sheriff's Office Arrests Three for Armed Robbery at Loves Travel Shop

    The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an armed robbery that took place early this morning at McDonalds within Loves Travel Shop, located at 17750 State Highway 285, Mossy Head.  Two black male suspects with partially covered faces entered the business around 3:15 am this morning.  One of the suspects brandished a 22 magnum handgun and demanded money.  Both suspects fled with approximately $2,500 in a 2008 Mazda with a Louisiana tag heading towards Niceville.  Patrol deputies pursued and stopped the suspect’s vehicle.  Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.  A third suspect was apprehended a few hours later near Hwy 90 and Emma Lane in Mossy Head.  The weapon used during the robbery and the stolen money have be ...

Field Training Officer Program



The purpose of the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTO) is to train new deputies so that each is prepared to function as an independent deputy at the conclusion of their training cycle. The training cycle consists of intensive on-the-job training and daily performance evaluations. Training is conducted and staffed by one FTO Sergeant and six (6) field training officers on a 24-hour basis. Field training officers have the dual responsibility of providing service in their assigned geographical areas, as well as conducting training and evaluations for new deputies. Field training supervisors are responsible for the supervision of all members assigned to their teams and for coordinating and supervising the on-the-job training of deputy recruits.

Deputies are required to meet specific performance standards before being certified for independent patrol duty. After completion of the FTO program, each deputy is assigned to a patrol team. During this time, the deputy is evaluated on a regular basis by their supervisor until they are ready for independent service.
