The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Quartermaster.
General Statement of Job:
Under the direction of the Quartermaster, this position manages fleet and facility maintenance operations for the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance and improvement programs as they relate to the continuous operation of the Fleet Division. Must be available for on-call as needed.
High school diploma, Florida General Education Development Test (GED), or out-of-state GED, with transcript of test results. Must be able to operate computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and telephone. Applicant must be able to multi-task. Must be familiar with Windows 10 operating system. Applicant must have five (5) years of progressively increasing responsibility as a supervisor.
Perform Job Functions:
- Supervises technicians on the repair and maintenance of agency vehicles including cars, trucks, apparatus, Watercrafts, ATVs, and utility trailers;
- Supervises technicians on the repair and maintenance of radios and emergency equipment, including the installation of equipment into all new vehicles purchased yearly;
- Supervises the maintenance of proper inventory of uniforms, leather gear, vests, and accessories;
- Supervises the handling of all shipping, receiving, and returns;
- Monitors shipments for tracking inventory items;
- Provides secure storage for sensitive items on an as needed basis;
- Provides maintenance at all Walton County Fire Rescue facilities including plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance;
- Requires regular and predictable attendance;
- Must be able to cooperatively work with coworkers and general public;
- Must be able to maintain a constant state of awareness and act in a safe manner;
- Must have the ability to follow directives and policies of the agency;
- Performs related duties as necessary.
Standards to Perform Job Functions:
Physical Requirements: Tasks involve periodic walking and standing in a shop environment and outside. Must be able to sit, stand, and bend body forward at waist. Must be able to hear and understand communications through a telephone. Must have clear vision to view computer monitor. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear; (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words); Must be able to lift up to twenty pounds; carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics of records, fleet services, vehicles and equipment, specifications and contracts.
Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking to convey or exchange information to people; includes issuing and receiving assignments, instructions and/or directions. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of records, reports, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals, etc., in moderately complex technical terminology. Requires the ability to read and interpret warranties, contracts and specifications. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in Standard English.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Requires the application of principles of influence systems and synthesis functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to issue and follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, use decimals and calculate percentages, to determine weight; compute discount and loss, ratio and proportion.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using modern office equipment.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with frequent deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy in frequent contact with various professionals, Sheriff’s Office staff, and the general public. Must be able to hear and understand communications through telephone and radio.
